DEC 2016 Mock exam

This is not a straight practice exam, but rather a test of your learning on all 3 AS Media elements: coursework, film industry, analysing media language/semiotics.

To be of maximum benefit, it will not be written, but rather delivered as a multimedia blog post with suitable illustrations, links etc.

If you wish to make improvements immediately after completing the mock then copy the post content into a new post with a new post title, but do not edit the original post until marks and feedback have been received.

You will need headphones. One of you needs to log in before this lesson and setup the MediaStudies NAS drive folder on a Mac on the other side of the room: two clips will be stored on this.

THURSDAY 8TH DEC 2016
P4+P5

FORMAT:
One question. You have the full double period to complete your answers, but be aware that AS exam essays are 45 mins each and do not combine in this way.

Assessment will follow the AS exam format. For each question:
EAA 20/50
EX 20/50
T 10/50

Q: Two clips from Warp/WT film openings ['71 and one WT TBC] will be available in a MediaStudies drive folder. Discuss how meaning has been constructed through cinematography, editing, sound, mise-en-scene and any other elements of media language you think appropriate. Use captioned screenshots to help illustrate your answer.
This is the main focus, but you should also include some detail on and discussion of the impact of the production context (companies and ownership, budget, financing, genre, casting, director, setting, BBFC age rating, franchise/IP) on the nature of these films. You may also refer to marketing, distribution and box office here, and can use further films to help back your analysis.
