You can adapt + reuse last year's blog, but you must create a new blog. Follow these instructions en route to your A grade! ...
- organise all your AS coursework material into a desktop folder named 2012-JanAS-KatieM (your name!!!)
- copy this onto that Mac's Lacie, and create your own backup on a memory stick so you can access your work at all times
- email david.burrowes@ilkleygs.ngfl.ac.uk and john.cockshaw@ilkleygs.ngfl.ac.uk with the title 'KatieM As resub is on Mac x' [use the Mac number] + copy/paste this into the email too so its not flagged as spam
- Before you even look at your previous blog, check you have the assessment criteria, semiotics crib sheet etc.
- READ THE ASSESSMENT CRITERIA!!! Review your blog/film/Eval + make notes on what you think you need to do get excellent under each criteria (you can modify the feedback forms I emailed to do this if you wish). When I get time I'll use this as the basis for final planning with you
- Start working through your original blog, copy/pasting but revising/improving where relevant. Again, its vital you make detailed notes on precisely what needs to be done/revised/added to
- For topics such as casting, where this has changed start the post with an indented [quote tool] hyperlinked 'You can see details of the original casting here'.
- Then state what you learned from the 1st experience of this, before adding details of latest casting. If you had linked casting to genre character types/research, great - re-use that
- Think carefully about the assessment criteria time management and organisation of actors [etc] when ordering your posts; creating a post summarising what mistakes you made ['Time management + organisation 1st time around'] would be a good idea - you could later add a new post summarising how you improved this time
- Make sure post titles are brief but clear: ask yourself will an examiner know what its about from the title alone? eg: 'Podcast' means what??? 'Podcast1: Meet Group/The Idea' or 'Podcast2: Update on last 7 days' are brief but clear
- remember to use KM - Podcast1... etc to identify post authors (if you want only do this where you've copied the other person's work, or where both, 'ALL', combined)
- Set up several links lists which you can add to as you go:
- Film Openings Analysed
- Books I've Used
- Films/Directors That Influenced Our Work
- Useful resources on ... [genre, a film, director etc]
- Other websites I've used (IMDB, Gdn etc)
- Podcasts
- Vodcasts
- Posts on Audience
- Posts on Opening/Genre Conventions
- Rough Cuts
- ...and any more that you think would be useful
- Customise/add other gadgets: company logo; group links as a top (horizontal) links list; background image; group image, poll etc
- SUMMARIZE AS YOU GO - if you've looked at all the opneings you need to, set out what you've learned, using the exam markscheme as a guideline: Use of Examples; Explanation, Analysis, Argument [offer some opinions on conventions, and whether you will follow/challenge, for example, or cite different views you've read about]; Use of Terminology. Do this for major topics which are reflected in assessment criteria and/or Evalution: conventions; audience; representations; institution: budgets, box office, marketing, major production/distribution companies; role of new media; aud feedback + how this influenced what you did. By all means bullet point!!! These can be very useful prep for your Eval Qs
- Many of you lost a full grade by leaving the Eval to the last minute (10% = difference between grade levels). Remember, this must feature use of ICT: podcasts, vodcasts, annotated YouTube vids especially (you can be quirky to some extent if you wish!). Prepping + note-taking as you go (also effectively prep for your A2 exam Q1a+1b don't forget) will be vital here, and you need to leave time to do vodcasts pre-Xmas.
- DEADLINES: Being as flexible as I can, I'll need the final DVD + full-qual QT file, before we end at Xmas. If you want to work over Xmas, I can wait until the end of the 1st day back - but that leaves me just 24 hours to meet the exam board's marking deadline, so ifs not done its not marked!!!
- A final suggestion: it would be useful for you and my AS students for both groups to come in and pitch to the AS, and then discuss your ideas. You might also find some of these would be interested in working with you in whatever capacity.
