Which is remarkably similar to a typical day in this frenetic industry!
John and myself have now filmed 8 interviews with senior citizens (aged 60+).
In each case two cameras were used.
Each of you will have one of these interviews to work with. You have two jobs to do:
- illustrate the footage with some relevant images
- use the 2nd video track to add some variety to the master track
- Create a desktop folder called ImTns-Name [interviewee's name], eg ImTns-FranMcAuley
- copy and paste the iMovie project file John has created for you into this
- go through the footage and cut out gaps, plus my voice where its not needed!
- REMEMBER TO save FREQUENTLY!!! [CMD+S is a useful keyboard shortcut]
- cut the interview where you think it drags or there is repetition
- as you do this, make notes (with pen and paper) on:
- the interviewee's name [ask if unsure!] and age they turned 13
- events/people/places/times etc they mention, and the time (in your edited track) this covers [eg, Jimi Hendrix: 2:13-2:25]
- number each one so that you can easily match up images you save to your own notes
- make particular note of any music mentioned; I may have it!!!
- search for - and save - relevant images [you could do this at the same time as you make your notes]; make sure to give them clear file names - and it'd be an idea to number them to match your notes so you can quickly find the right ones!!!
- if you need further inspiration for images, try googling the year or decade (of turning 13): you'll find useful wiki entries and more that list key events, major movies, popular music etc
- cut in synched footage from the 2nd track on at least 5 occasions.
- we'll discuss titling options as a class
These are for passing on to Miss Ramrattan for next Tuesday, and I'd need time to upload everything to YouTube, so we really only have Thursday and Friday's lessons. If you possibly can, please use lunch/frees etc to make sure these not only get finished, but that you'll be proud to see your name featured as editor!!! The senior citizens who gave their time up to do this are really looking forward to seeing what you do with these, and the head of Drama is looking forward to seeing what thought-inspiring work you can create to help stimulate ideas from Year9 students!!!
BACK UP YOUR WORK BY COPYING THE FOLDER ONTO THE LACIE DRIVE AT THE END OF EVERY SESSION YOU SPEND WORKING ON THIS!
